Black Emmanuelle 2 (1976)

In yet another entry to the Emmanuelle series we find her locked up in a mental hospital.  Some traumatic event has caused her to lose her memory and we follow her doctor as he visits her friends and family to try and sort out why.  This allows for plenty of flashbacks into her past, most of which involve her taking her clothes off!  In addition to the flashbacks we are treated to scenes of Emmanuelle in the hospital dealing with the doctor and the other patients.  One of the patients being the niece of Emmanuelle’s doctor, who has problems of her own and has taken an interest in Emmanuelle.  In the end the event that caused all of her problems is revealed and she is suddenly cured of all her problems.

I don’t know how else to say this other than to come right out and let everyone know this is a terrible movie.  Even by the standards of the worst movies from the series the plot is awful and only exists to bridge one random encounter with the next.  I know what you are thinking, but the best Emmanuelle movies actually have an interesting story line, like the one in Emmanuelle and the White Slave Trade.  Here we are treated to long scenes of inane dialogue that go nowhere, even more drawn out scenes of people walking down the street, broken up by the obligatory naked people rolling around on each other.  I also need to say something, but I don’t know how to say it without sounding creepy.  It is really difficult to for a movie to put beautiful women on the screen in various stages of undress and make it so uninteresting to me that I wanted so badly to fast forward thru it.  Black Emmanuelle 2 really had me tempted to skip what is supposed to be the whole point you are watching.  That can’t be a good sign. 

From a technical standpoint this is also one of the weakest Emmanuelle movies that I’ve seen.  Black Emmanuelle 2 lacks the great exotic locations that even a lackluster effort like Black Emmanuelle/White Emmanuelle boasts.  These locations are almost as important to the movies as the nudity and sleaze.  This goes hand in hand with the terrible plot to make a really boring movie.  It was also obvious that many of the scenes were taking place on cheaply built sets instead of on location.  I’m not sure if they were lacking funding for this one, but it really hurts the movie.

Just to make it clear I’m not a prude.  There are some Emmanuelle movies that I do actually like.  For me these movies work best when there is an actual effort made to have a decent story between the naughty bits.  Black Emmanuelle 2 has a terrible story and plays out more like a soft-core porno, which just doesn’t interest me.  If that is all you want to see you can get much better stuff on the internet with about 30 seconds worth of effort.  Even the most dedicated fan of the Emmanuelle movies is going to have difficulty getting thru this one.  I really just can’t recommend Black Emmanuelle 2.  If you insist or want to check out some of the better films from the series head over to Severin’s website and check out there catalog at http://www.severin-films.com/
